The Pi Network hackathon is finally here, inviting developers from around the globe to build meaningful apps and unlock major rewards. Following the launch of the Open Network earlier this year, the Pi Core Team has kicked off its first official hackathon, offering up to 160,000 PI tokens as prize money.
Pi Network 2025 Hackathon Begins
In a recent announcement, the Pi Network team revealed that the Pi Hackathon 2025 is now open for registration, beginning August 15. The actual hackathon officially starts on August 21, with a midpoint check-in scheduled for September 19 and the final submission deadline on October 15.
This event builds on the excitement from Pi2Day 2025, which took place earlier this summer. If you missed it, check out the main highlights in this article. Unlike previous events, this hackathon is geared toward expanding the real-world use of the PI token through practical and creative blockchain-based solutions.
Developers are encouraged to create applications that boost token usability in areas like payment systems, services, or other tools that meet the network’s needs. Applications should adhere to the Pi Mainnet Listing Guidelines and provide tangible value to the community. Participants can leverage available Pi Network tools such as Pi App Studio, Brainstorm App, and the Developer Portal. Integration of artificial intelligence is also encouraged to optimize results.
Generous Prize Pool Up for Grabs
The Pi Core Team has allocated a total prize pool of 160,000 PI, with rewards distributed to up to eight teams. Here’s how the prizes break down:
- 1st Place – 75,000 Pi
- 2nd Place – 45,000 Pi
- 3rd Place – 15,000 Pi
- Honorable Mentions (up to 5 teams) – 5,000 Pi each
How Developers Can Join
To participate, interested developers—known as Pioneers within the network—must register using the official Hackathon Registration Form. It’s also recommended to join the event’s email list to receive timely updates. Team size is flexible, but all participants must successfully complete the Pi KYC process to claim any eventual rewards. Although, as detailed in this cryptopotato article, Pi’s KYC procedures have faced their share of criticism and technical difficulties.
Submissions must be posted to the Pi Developer Portal and include a working demo video and submission form. Judges will assess each project based on how well it supports token utility, ease of use (UI/UX), long-term vision, and its relevance to the broader Pi user base.
“Pi Hackathon 2025 is an opportunity for developers to contribute meaningfully to the Pi Ecosystem by building real-world applications that encourage Pi utility and community participation. Whether you’re an experienced developer or just getting started, this is your chance to create something impactful, collaborate with others, and showcase your ideas to the global Pi community,” the official blog post concluded.
This initiative marks a major step toward growing the Pi Network ecosystem in a practical and community-focused way. With generous incentives and a vibrant development scene, Pi Network is looking to turn innovative concepts into useful blockchain applications.
