XRP Ledger is continuing to push the boundaries of blockchain innovation, as demonstrated on the first day of the XRPL Apex 2025 conference in Singapore. This key industry gathering brought together developers, institutional leaders, and blockchain enthusiasts to spotlight the latest developments enhancing the XRP Ledger (XRPL) ecosystem.
The event, hosted at the bustling Raffles City Convention Centre, set a high-energy tone for the remainder of the year, unveiling pivotal advancements in XRPL’s technology and real-world applications. Among the standout announcements was the approaching mainnet launch of the XRPL EVM Sidechain, the tokenization of U.S. Treasuries through Ondo Finance, and a strategic $100 million XRP deployment by VivoPower.
EVM Sidechain Slated for Q2 2025 Mainnet Launch
Ripple’s CTO, David Schwartz, alongside Director of Product Management, Jaazi Cooper, took center stage to confirm that the much-anticipated Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) compatible sidechain will go live on XRPL’s mainnet by the second quarter of 2025. Ripple, in collaboration with Peersyst and leveraging the interoperability of the Axelar Network, developed this sidechain to introduce Ethereum-style smart contract functionality to XRPL.
While a specific release date has not yet been disclosed, the development aligns with strong activity observed on the testnet, which launched on March 31. Impressively, it has supported over 280,000 transactions each day and attracted 87 new projects in only two months. Many of these projects are creating decentralized apps (dApps) and exploring new use cases, thus expanding XRPL’s reach in the DeFi space.
Tokenized U.S. Treasuries Come to XRPL
In another milestone, Ondo Finance officially rolled out its OUSG tokenized U.S. Treasury product on XRPL. As promised in a January announcement, OUSG was delivered within a six-month period and marks the integration of compliant traditional assets onto blockchain rails.
OUSG is backed by BlackRock’s USD Institutional Digital Liquidity Fund and includes short-duration U.S. government bonds. It currently boasts a market value estimated around $692 million. Minting and redeeming OUSG is made seamless through the use of Ripple’s stablecoin, RLUSD. Ondo and Ripple have jointly provided liquidity support during the product’s launch.
This rollout is further fortified by XRPL’s robust compliance tools, such as decentralized identifiers (DIDs) and native on-chain credentials, ensuring all transactions adhere to Know Your Customer (KYC) and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) standards.
VivoPower Commits $100M XRP for Yield in Flare Ecosystem
One of the day’s most significant financial announcements came from Max Luck of Flare Network, revealing that sustainable energy firm VivoPower, listed on the NASDAQ, is allocating $100 million in XRP to Flare’s decentralized finance ecosystem.
This investment will be utilized within the Flare ecosystem’s products — particularly FAssets and Firelight — with the goal of generating yield. As returns are harvested, VivoPower intends to compound them back into its XRP reserves, signaling the company’s strategic commitment to blockchain-based financial instruments.
XRPL Growth Metrics and NFT Innovation
Ripple also shared compelling performance metrics for XRPL, painting a picture of dynamic growth. To date, the ledger has processed over 3.3 billion transactions and supports more than 6 million active XRP wallets. Meanwhile, on-chain payment flows have surged by an astounding 1300%, highlighting user confidence and adoption at scale.
Adding to the innovation pipeline, XRPL introduced support for Dynamic NFTs through a recent protocol upgrade, enhancing its capabilities in the non-fungible token space. This lays the groundwork for more adaptable and interactive NFT experiences directly on the ledger.
