Tokenization Gains Steam Across Hedge Funds
SkyBridge Capital, the investment firm led by Anthony Scaramucci, has announced it will transfer $300 million worth of hedge fund assets onto the blockchain by utilizing Avalanche’s infrastructure. This move is part of a broader effort to embrace tokenization—a trend gaining traction across the financial landscape.
SkyBridge’s Digital Macro Master Fund and Legion Strategies will be tokenized in partnership with Tokeny and its parent company, Apex Group. Apex recently acquired Tokeny to bolster its digital asset capabilities. Apex oversees more than $3.5 trillion in global assets and plans to support this transition via its Digital 3.0 platform, which assists in the issuance, administration, and distribution processes using ERC-3643 token standards.
Why Real-World Asset Tokenization Is Accelerating
The initiative illustrates the growing use of blockchain to manage traditional financial products such as funds, bonds, and equities. Known as RWA tokenization, this approach enhances transparency, improves liquidity, and enables 24/7 markets. Global financial institutions are increasingly turning to this model to streamline settlements and reduce costs.
Recent developments signal the sector’s rapid evolution. Brazilian firm VERT Capital recently tokenized $1 billion in traditional debt and receivables via the XDC network, and also launched a $130 million tokenized credit platform on the XRP Ledger. Meanwhile, Securitize is pivoting into the space with tokenized offerings from established fund managers like Hamilton Lane, Apollo, and KKR.
XRP Ledger’s Role in Shaping Tokenized Finance
Though SkyBridge is leveraging the Avalanche network for its pilot, the XRP Ledger has become a preferred platform for tokenized debt and credits, as evidenced by VERT’s recent launch. XRP Ledger’s capabilities in low-cost transactions and compliance make it particularly well-suited for institutional RWA deployment.
SkyBridge Capital joins the growing list of firms embracing blockchain to tokenize real-world financial instruments.
The scale of tokenized assets has surged dramatically, more than doubling in the past year and topping $26 billion, according to RWA.xyz. Industry projections from McKinsey, Ripple, and BCG point to a trillion-dollar market by 2030, a trajectory fuelled by the efficiencies and openness of blockchain-based settlement.
Looking Ahead: Avalanche’s and XRP Ledger’s Ecosystem Expands
Anthony Scaramucci highlighted the initiative as a milestone that brings SkyBridge’s hedge funds closer to a more open, digital future. “Tokenizing these funds allows us to boost liquidity, increase transparency, and make them more accessible to our investors,” Scaramucci noted in a public statement.
Avalanche has been strategically positioning itself as a hub for tokenized financial instruments. For instance, Bergen County in New Jersey has begun to digitize $240 billion worth of property deeds using Avalanche, aiming to reduce fraud and operational inefficiencies.
As RWA tokenization becomes mainstream, blockchain networks like the XRP Ledger and Avalanche are attracting increasing interest from asset managers and government agencies alike. The race is on to become the leading digital foundation for the assets of tomorrow.
