XRP treasury strategy has taken center stage as VivoPower International (VVPR), a Nasdaq-listed sustainable energy enterprise, announced a significant pivot into the digital asset space. The company recently secured $121 million in private funding to implement this transformative strategy, positioning itself as the first publicly listed firm to manage a crypto reserve primarily focused on XRP.
The bulk of this investment—$100 million—comes from Saudi Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Abdulaziz Al Saud, demonstrating substantial institutional faith in XRP and its ecosystem. VivoPower disclosed that it issued 20 million ordinary shares priced at $6.05 each in this funding round, reflecting investor confidence and surpassing the previous market closing rate.
Steering this bold move is Adam Traidman, a former executive at Ripple and past head of SBI Ripple Asia. He is stepping into the role of chairman on VivoPower’s board of advisors. Ripple, known for its enterprise-focused blockchain services, has long held a foundational relationship with XRP through the XRP Ledger (XRPL), which underpins a wide range of financial and decentralized applications worldwide.
The announcement sent ripples through the market. VivoPower shares surged by up to 26% following the news, before stabilizing to a gain exceeding 11%, with prices hovering around $6.75. This reaction underscores the growing appetite among investors for companies leveraging crypto assets, especially those connected with established digital ecosystems like XRPL.
VivoPower’s strategy mirrors a broader trend in corporate finance. The idea of incorporating digital assets into company treasuries gained traction with Michael Saylor’s Strategy (MSTR), which accumulated a massive Bitcoin (BTC) holding. However, where most of these initiatives have predominantly focused on Bitcoin or Ethereum (ETH), VivoPower’s emphasis on XRP sets it apart.
Other entrants into the digital treasury model include DeFi Development with its investments in Solana (SOL), and SharpLink Gaming, which recently adopted Ethereum for its crypto treasury holdings. Yet, VivoPower is carving out a unique niche by placing its primary bet on XRP, aiming to deepen integration within the XRPL ecosystem.
Founded in 2014, VivoPower has traditionally focused on renewable energy and decarbonization solutions, but this pivot signals a new era. As part of its cryptocurrency transition, the company plans to divest its legacy operations, making way for a broader commitment to blockchain-based financial infrastructure spearheaded by the XRP Ledger.
“After evaluating a range of publicly traded entities contemplating digital asset treasury approaches, we chose VivoPower because of its strategic orientation toward XRP and its commitment to expanding the XRPL ecosystem,” said Prince Abdulaziz in a company release. “We’ve been crypto investors for over a decade, and XRP has always been a core long-term holding for us.”
This alignment between experienced crypto stakeholders and a publicly listed firm could set a precedent. As confidence in XRP grows, thanks in part to the clarity brought by recent institutional moves and wider adoption of the XRP Ledger—for example, Dubai’s recent real estate tokenization initiative on XRPL—VivoPower’s decision could represent the front end of a broader corporate movement toward the asset.
